In Ratings And Changing One's Mind

Hey there everyone! I hope you enjoyed a lot of what's happened on the blog this past few weeks! I'm so happy that the blog is so busy this month. I'm pretty sure I'll flop in the next coming months. WEEEE!!! Lol kidding. Anyway, a thought suddenly popped into my head for no reason as I was riding on my way home to school. How does one really rate a book, like correctly? I mean, we have rating systems and all that. Like, in a way that it feels final and you won't change your mind about it. My brain hurts.

Over the years, I have found myself quite easily pleased with books (in high school mostly) and would rate them so high that I think now that I got wrinklier and somehow the sun has given my mind some light, my love for them has, I dunno, diminished?

Photo Journal: New Year, Reading and Being a Hermit (January)

Hi there! Another month has passed and I'm still alive! Hooray! While this year has proven to suck since a lot of my favorite artists keep dying... I really don't know where I'm going with this but January sucked a lot for my feels. But it's still the New Year and other than the deaths, my January, was quite "eventful" or maybe not.

Reading Unfamiliar or Disliked Genres and How to Deal With Them

Hey there!!! As you might have known already from all my constant Twitter plugging #shameless, I've started off my 2016 with my Bookish Resolutions. Now, I know it doesn't seem all too important, but my goal really is to comply with that or at least make the most out of each month.

However, I have noticed that I've put myself in quite the challenge. There are a few months in which I'm going to be reading some genres that are either unfamiliar to me or that I don't particularly enjoy and have to try out.

I've become accustomed to titles that feel comfortable and safe but I've also noticed that I've become lax with them and somehow bored and I need something that will make my readings a little bit more diverse.

But with genres that you're mostly really skeptical and scared to be engrossed with, how do you even deal with them?

2016 Bookish Resolution!

Hi there Misfit booknerds!!! It's a New Year! WOOOHOO!!!! *deflates like a pancake* I don't know if I'm excited by anything anymore, except by the idea of new books and new friends to make. As for other experiences outside of it, I am skeptical but more scared than anything.

Anyway, since this place is my safe haven, I intend to just say to you guys my reading plans for 2016. Hopefully I'll follow through with this with a bit more excitement.

January:
"Read 3 YA books from previous releases in 2015 + 2 January 2016 released books"

I feel like I left out a lot of previous releases from last year on the dust, especially the e-ARCs that I didn't get to read due to you know what circumstances those are, but I also wanna include some new releases from January. I'm taking it pretty mellow with my reading since my pace became pretty slow. If I do exceed my plans for January, then I'll be pretty happy.

Misfit Talks: I'm Sad AF

I got to see Inside Out around 2 weeks ago and really got into the idea of the whole film... until I realized I wasn't getting into the really sad stuff, like the nitty gritty, Bing Bong's gonna *tooot* that sort of thing. I did shed a tear. Just one, for Bing Bong. But on the general note about Sadness being the main reason for the film's turn and that it is okay to be sad... It is okay. The point of the film is to let Sadness' "ability" as a sort of alert for people to know that Riley or in any case, any other person that he or she is sad.

I have my Sadness, but it doesn't seem to be working properly. I am sad. Many times. Lately, I have been very sad, for reasons unknown mostly, at times frustrations, fear mixed into a concoction of loneliness and tears in the night, but never did I cry in front of my parents letting them know my problem.

How's Your Reading Pace?

From the time  I was in high school till I have realized that I am a huge, sociopath bum throughout college, the pace of how I was reading has changed. In high school, I get to read a book out of my school library for a day. We were allowed to have it for seven but I insisted on keeping it for only one day and borrowing a new one the next. High school was a fun time for me and reading. We were tight. It allowed me to openly brag about my #SKILL.

Anyway, cut to college, I entered university and yeah you know the whole story, I noticed that I wasn't reading as fast as I would've wanted. I dunno if it was because I got busy or it's just my pace has changed, even if I stare in front of a book for quite some time.

Do you have that feeling that you are reading too fast that you aren't sucking in what you really want to know? Or you read too slow that your missing out on joining your friends discuss a certain book that's newly released? I think these are all my problems. I was beginning to think that I have lost my proficiency and speed when it came to reading. Then I became a book blogger, and the basic thought, when I started receiving e-ARCs or ARCs themselves, that I had to comply and put up a review on either the same day or earlier. But then things started to change when I thought that all I could think about was how will I write this review while reading rather than actually enjoying the book, because I was in such a hurry to actually be able to say something about it.

That's when I decided to pace myself slower-which made me comfortable-and not worry about how I was reading a book, or if it took longer than I anticipated. Sometimes, I'd only read 10 pages out of a book in a day, maybe more. If I'm busy, there's less of my time dedicated to reading. Thank God for short breaks. Sure, there are books that are really good, that you couldn't really put it down and finish fast but then there are books that need a ton of attention and may need more time to comprehend.

I understand the needs of all booknerds to actually challenge themselves into reading a lot of books, because, heck, it's the best feeling in the world to be able to read a ton and enjoy all the stories out there, but in all sense, it is also important to value a story. Getting to work these two situations to work together is not at all impossible. Again, depends on how you pace yourself.

So tell me, how is your reading pace? Tell me in the comments below how you do! It'll be lovely to hear from you!

Basic Necessities When Reading (The Misfit Edition)

Hi, I am Jayvee and I am a proud booknerd and reading books is my life. But it is always important to know that like life itself, reading has its necessities and it is important to have those whenever you do end up reading. Reading is a serious task to consider, so here are some of the basic necessities you need when reading.

1. Proper Lighting- I honestly do not believe in this need though I did say otherwise. I tend to read with only a cellphone flashlight which I know does not benefit my eyes one bit. Blame my father and reading habits. Ugh. Anyways, make sure that you have some sort of wide lighting coverage when reading. It shouldn’t just be the book that is properly lit, but also the surroundings. I had times when I end up looking in the dark after reading with a small light, causes flashes. Believe me, you don’t want to go through with it. A night stand may also help if you have one, or those on your headboards if you are snazzy!
