Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell (2013)

It's a good day! And blogging feels great! And book blogging is wonderful! So, I decided to change the template a bit to make it cleaner looking??? HAHA! But yeah, since I changed some of the things in my blog, maybe my content can follow.... But don't worry...Ol' BOOK NERD is still around, and I'm gonna eat all the books I can find and continuously do reviews for them!

So from the booklist that I did for January and February, here is a review of one of them. I present to you Fangirl.

Misfit's Synopsis

Cath is a girl  who just doesn't know how to fit in like her twin Wren. Both are obsessed with Simon Snow novels but unlike Cath, Wren would like to live her life outside of Simon Snow fan fiction and go out with her new friends in college and enjoy it. Cath on the other hand, is staying in the world of fanfiction, writing about Simon and Baz. Cath learns that college, taking care of her dad, having friends and falling in love, isn't as easy as those in fiction.

Misfit's Review:

As a fangirl myself, I felt Cath's sentiments and related to her in a couple of ways. But on the critical side, the character is indeed weak, like some reviewers think. I could feel a bit of her growth in the book but it took so long to develop that some scenes seemed unusually unnecessary...Like Nick...But nevermind him.

I ended up more interested in Levi than the main girl. I did enjoy Cath's flustery moments, her relationship with her family and how she values her fanfiction but I saw so much more potential for the story to grow. I guess, while reviewing for my Good Reads account, I was too giddy that I only minded the goodness in it.

READ: Fangirl (Good Reads Review)

But all in all, the book was a delight. Rainbow Rowell brings a lighthearted novel that will tug your heartstrings. Of course, my lil' fangirl heart would be in love with the characters. Levi for example. LET ME HAVE HIM FOREVER! It was fun reading parts of him teasing, worrying and being such a good guy to Cath. And as for favorite character, it has to be Reagan. I would love to have her as a best friend.

Rainbow is soooo pretty... Can I have her as my best friend?

Rainbow Rowell was able to mesh together characters of different beliefs and personalities and made it work. But of course, I wish it could've been greater.

If you are all for a Young Adult novel full of heart, laughter and fangirlishness, then grab a copy for your Kindle, KOBO, and BOOKSHELF.

MOVIE REVIEW: THE SPECTACULAR NOW (2013) LIVING IN THE NOW

Checked out a few movies in the last month and one of them is The Spectacular Now. I've actually had the movie for a while but didn't have enough time to actually watch, but when the opportunity presented itself, I just had to you know? Coz Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley? Let Me Let Me!

There are seldom movies that are taken to the big screen that receive approving nods from critics. Take The Godfather by Mario Puzo and The Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick. And if you had no idea that this movie was from a novel by Tim Tharp, I feel sorry for you. HAHA! Just kidding. Anyway, here's my review:

BOOK NERD SPECIAL: MITCH ALBOM IN MANILA

Hello fellow MISFITS and BOOK NERDS!!! WELCOME TO ANOTHER EPISODE OF BOOK NERD SPECIALS. Tis will feature authors, characters and we'll either talk about him/ her or anything special! Got it? GOOD!

Gotta flaunt my face a bit, yes?

Back in December, Eriele, a friend of mine (whom I've been to the Gayle Forman Book Signing last January),  planned out that we meet Mitch Albom for a book signing on Februart 22, and have our books signed. We carefully deduced how much time we need and all that stuff. We were warriors ready to go on battle!

February 22 came and boy, we were taken to a whole new world. Let me narrate the whole thing that happened before Mitch arrived.  *memory reel rewinding*

BOOKNERD LIST FOR MARCH TO APRIL

So I decided to make a list of books that I would be reading throughout the course of months! Since I also have a GoodReads account, it helps me keep track of what books I actually read. Being the narcissist I really am, I'm sharing the reads I will be reading for the month of March and April

(OH PLEASE SPARE ME THE HATE COZ I CAN'T FINISH THEM IN ONE MONTH. I HAVE OTHER STUFF IN MY HEAD TO YOU KNOW! LIKE MONEY! HAHAHA!)

1. The Shatter Me Trilogy by Tahereh Mafi

  • Weeeeell, I actually read this within February but I might read this trilogy again since I have it in my possession! MUAHAHA! And also since Tahereh's gonna come back to the Philippines for a signing! That I am extremely excited for! But let's just say that the one thing I loved about the novels, is the way Tahereh writes it. I dunno. People say that she's too descriptive, but I appreciate it... A LOT! Look forward to a review very soon!

Book Review: Wicked by Gregory Maguire (1995)

I've read quite a few books last February and I have to say that I am quite of myself for getting to read a few even with the almost impossible schedule. But then again, a book nerd will always find time!

(Hopefully, there won't be harsh reactions to any of my reviews... THANK YOU!!!)

Read the short synopsis and also purchase it on Good Reads : Wicked: The Life and Times of The Wicked Witch of the West

The Wicked Witch of the West was an unbelievable bitch in L. Baum's masterpiece, The Wizard of Oz. We all know Dorothy with her dog Toto and her wonderful, whimsical companions journey on in order to kill The Wicked Witch. But then, do you ever wonder why she's like that? Why she did become so wicked? What could've trigged such hate that it would eventually lead to her demise?

THEM: A Short Story (HER, Part 3 FINALE)

(So recently I decided to pursue this story in my head. It will be in parts... THIS IS ITS END... or it depends on what you think. But I will apologize for stalling for so looooong! I always blame school Here it is. LE FINALE...)

Try as they can, they could not bring themselves to talk to each other. he would only stare, she would only worry. But the strength in their feelings grew each day as he would sit on the counter, punching numbers, constantly thinking of what to say to her and she would stand there growing curious of his features and personality.
