Misfit's Synopsis:

Holden Caulfield is just so tired of all the people in the schools he's been in and getting himself recently kicked out of Pencey was a statement of it. He just hates how phony everyone was, from the teachers, to the principal, he just hated them all. Soon, he goes into an adventure after secretely leaving the prep school, and he finds himself doused by alienation from the world he's revolving in and on the streets of New York.

Misfit's Review:

Love is the word that explains my feelings towards this book, wrapped around constant misunderstandings and sidetracks of laughter. Holden Caulfield brought happiness, familiarity and even an unknown grief that I believe, only characters from books have made me feel. I could not explain how completely taken I was with Holden's character. He's blunt, smart and stupid at the same time and he thinks he knows what he's talking which makes us believe everything he says.

I love the writing style of this book. It basically portrays the thoughts inside a teenagers head or what supposedly a teenager would say in his or her head. I had a ton of laughs from the beginning of the story all the way to the part where he meets up with his younger sister, Phoebe, who I think brings Holden to his rightful mind at times. I really love Phoebe and how stubborn yet insightful she is for a kid. Anyway, yeah, I had a ton of laughs, but tears welled up too, especially on parts where Holden would talk about his deceased brother and when he has these thoughts of manic. I almost believed for a moment that he has gone crazy or something, or that I would've been crazy myself.

The Catcher in The Rye is a mind boggling, eye-opener that I would recommend to any teenager or any adult out there though a few people may say that it is much too juvenile. I honestly think it's pretty normal, smartly written without being too fussy.

J. D. Salinger was able to touch my heart under the veil of teenage angst. I recommend this read for every bookworm and especially for all you MISFIT READERS out there! You will truly enjoy this book.

  1. I am in love with Holden after reading this novel! I'm glad that you like it too because there are a lot of people who doesn't like it. I think that Salinger managed to portray a very confused yet strong character, which is hard. And that's the reason why we should praise him! Looking forward for more book reviews from you! :)
